Welcome from the Director

On behalf of Eastern Illinois University students, faculty and staff: Thank you! Thank you for the important work you do in our community. EIU is committed to being a partner in service. EIU students are highly engaged and motivated to make a strong impact in our community.

Volunteerism on college campuses is at an all-time high. Let us help you tap into that energy and enthusiasm about volunteering. Please take a moment to fill out the event forms for as many volunteer opportunities to help connect the students of Eastern Illinois University with the community for which they live in.

Another way Student Community Service works to connect the EIU community to our local Coles County is through a practice called service-learning. Service-learning links students with the community through service and reflection to enhance the classroom experience. Service-learning is quickly becoming a common practice across the nation as both an effective, practical learning tool that both educates and encourages involvement. To learn more about service-learning and how to get involved, please contact our office.

I have the distinct pleasure of connecting the passion and energy of EIU students with the important needs in our community. What makes a community great is the citizenry within. Let’s continue to make our community the best it can be! I welcome the opportunity to meet with you and discuss your needs and goals. Our students are ready and so am I! Please connect with us today. Thank you for your service and we look forward to working with you soon. Give us a call today at 217-581-6048 or email us at volunteer@eiu.edu.

Sincerely,

Rachel Z. Fisher
