Michael O'Laughlin like some of the other conspirators was prepared to participate in the kidnapping plot of President Lincoln derived by John Wilkes Booth to use the president in a trade for confederate prisoners. While O'Laughlin was in Washington on the night of President Lincoln's assassination what part he played is largely unknown. O'Laughlin was charged with conspiracy to kidnap President Lincoln.
