COS Student Advisory Board
Ashley Short
The College of Sciences encompasses eleven different departments. Each department selects a student to represent the department in the monthly board meeting with the Dean of the College of Sciences. During meetings, each student representative gives a brief report of the current events and news in his/her department, while providing input on the mission of the College of Sciences. The Board also has taken on major projects such as creating a scholarship to assist students experiencing financial challenges and establishing an award to recognize faculty teaching excellence. Student board members also help with major college activities such as the annual Sciencefest program. The Student Advisory Board is beneficial because it allows each department to keep up to date with other departments in the College of Sciences and allows student voices and concerns to be heard.
Ashley Short is the AY2012-2013 representative to the Dean's Student Advisory Board. Ashely is a senior Political Science major and upon graduation plans on attending graduate school. She is involved in many extracurricular activities at EIU, including the College of Sciences Student Advisory Board.
