EIU High School Honor Band Festival

We are pleased to announce that the EIU High School Honor Band Festival is scheduled for December 7, 2013. It is our sincere hope that you and your students will participate in this educational event.
The EIU High School Honor Band Festival is designed to provide students the opportunity to make music with Director of Bands, Dr. Alicia Neal, and Assistant Director of Bands, Dr. J. Corey Francis. Students participating in the Honor Band Festival will have the opportunity to attend master classes, presented by our very own instrumental music faculty and will have the opportunity to hear these world class musicians perform in a Faculty Showcase Recital. The final concert will be held in our state-of-the-art Dvorak Concert Hall in the Doudna Fine Arts Center on the campus of Eastern Illinois University. At the conclusion of the Honor Bands' portion of the concert, the EIU Wind Symphony will perform for all of the honor band students, their parents, and their band directors.
Second Annual Band Director Workshop
Last year's Band Director Workshop was a rousing success, it's back again by popular demand! Band directors will have the opportunity to attend workshops and earn up to 7 1/2 hours of CPDUs for their participation in the Second Annual Band Director Workshop, which will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7th and will run alongside the High School Honor Band Rehearsals and Events. Band directors coming to campus to chaperone Honor Band students will have the opportunity to earn CPDUs by attending the workshop sessions while on campus.

Honor Band Selection Process
There will be two bands: The Concert Band and the High School Wind Symphony. Selection into each group is based on a combination of previous honor band experience and director recommendations.
While there is no formal audition process, all interested students must fill out an on-line application and each student must have a brief online recommendation provided by their band director. Selection and seating in the bands will be based on directors’ recommendations. Every school submitting names will be guaranteed at least two students selected (although we will accommodate as many of students as instrumentation allows). Please be aware that double reeds, low reeds, horns, and low brass are often given preference. We believe that every student should have the opportunity to work with our conductors and, therefore, emphasis is currently placed on inclusion, rather than selection. Directors are encouraged to determine a more specific selection process if you wish. The festival is capped at 300 students. The online registration deadline for the 2013 EIU High School Honor Band Festival is 10:00pm on Monday, November 18th.
Remember, emphasis is not on chair position. The most important thing for students is the overall experience of working with our conductors, faculty members, and making great music!
Student Cost
The fee for the festival (this is a big reduction from last year!!!): $25 per student, which includes a t-shirt, all instructional materials, and lunch. Directors and participants will be notified of accepted musicians via email. It is then the responsibility of the director to submit fees on behalf of attending students. Payments must be postmarked by Friday, November 29, 2013. ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. If a student is unable to attend, another student from that school may attend instead.
Directors, once you know the number of students from your school who have been selected, please mail a check for $25 (per student) made out to "EIU" by Friday, November 29, 2013. The mailing address is:
