Welcome to the Honors College
Welcome to the Honors College at Eastern Illinois University. Even though this is only a virtual visit for you, I hope this site answers any questions that you might have. If not, I encourage you to contact us and we would be happy to answer them or discuss the programs we offer in greater detail. You, of course, are welcome to visit Eastern Illinois University and the Honors College in person. If you know you will be coming to Charleston, please let us know and we will make sure that you meet current honors students and can help you make appointments if you wish to visit a department. Whether you are a prospective student, interested in an affordable education that values the integration of your goals with your long-term success, or returning alumni of the Honors College and Eastern, you will find that there is something here for you.
Established in 1982, the Honors College offers its students opportunities to study with some of the best faculty in the university. With honors classes capped at a maximum of 18 students, you will have engaging discussions with your faculty and have unique experiences in those classes that might not be afforded students outside Honors. We expect that Honors students aspire to become involved in more than just their classes and so we encourage internships, study abroad, National Student Exchange (think of study abroad, but, for the most part, without the need to leave the United States), and the development of student-faculty mentoring as part of the academic and personal development. Innovative undergraduate curricula, engaging and intellectually stimulating faculty, and a wealth of opportunities are offered through the Honors College and its various programs.
Alumni of the Honors College have taken advantage of these opportunities and have been amply rewarded for their achievements. Alumni have been awarded national scholarships for their work, had papers published as undergraduates, performed on stages around the world, and are now leaders in their communities and disciplines.
Whether you are a prospective student, current student, alumni, or friend of the Honors College, I ask that you explore the website for additional information. When you visit, or return to campus, please stop by Booth House and the Honors College! I look forward to meeting you.
