Prospective Faculty
The Department of Communication Studies is currently seeking to fill the position of Department Chair for the 2013-2014 academic year.
Position: Department Chair Full-time position. Subject to funding availability.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities: The Chair of Communication Studies has primary responsibility for the coordination, supervision and administration of programs and activities of the department. This includes planning and budgeting; recruiting, mentoring, and evaluating faculty and staff; providing leadership in curricular matters; providing leadership in alumni relations and philanthropy; overseeing program reviews as required by the Illinois Board of Higher Education; teaching and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Terminal degree or 30 hours beyond the Master’s Degree in a Communication discipline with evidence of excellence in teaching and research that can contribute to the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs. We seek a leader who will foster a supportive environment for faculty and students with diverse interests and backgrounds while advancing departmental goals. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to collaborative and transparent leadership required.
Desired Qualifications: Doctoral degree preferred. Previous successful experience in program- or department-level leadership, especially in a collective bargaining environment.

The Department: The Communication Studies Department offers both B.A. and M.A. degrees. Approximately 500 undergraduate majors are enrolled in programs of study in Corporate Communication, Public Relations, Interpersonal Communication, Mass Communication (Broadcast or Electronic Media), and Communication, Society, and Pop Culture. In addition, the department participates in interdisciplinary minors in Advertising, Broadcast Meteorology, Film Studies, and Health Communication. The M.A. program, enrolling approximately 30 students, offers concentrations in Strategic Communication, Human Communication Processes, Critical/Cultural Studies, and a Pedagogy Option.
